Piercing Aftercare

The hardest part of going through a new body piercing is none of getting the piercing itself; it's the extra attention it needs afterwards for it to heal properly. Poor aftercare can lead to numerous complications such as infection and rejection. Both can leave noticeable scars on your body. If you see signs of rejection or infection around your gauge holes, remove the jewelry and call your local piercer immediately.

One of the important rules of aftercare for a piercing is to not remove the jewelry until the piercing heals. Also, do not touch the piercing without washing your hands. Oil and bacteria from your hands can get inside the piercing and cause an infection. You should clean your piercing 2-3 times a day. It's a good idea to clean it throughout the day: Once in the morning, once in the middle of the day, and once at night before you go to sleep is a good idea. Also, be sure not to let any bodily liquids such as sweat to get into the piercing. That means after any exercise you should clean it.
